Neck Pain Treatment

Neck pain is a common condition that can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor posture, injury, or degenerative changes.

Sometimes other symptoms come with neck issues, such as:

  • Pins and needles in arm / fingers

  • Numbness in neck and arm

  • Tension headaches

  • Reduced range of movement

The treatment for neck pain depends on the underlying cause, severity, and duration of the pain. Here are some common neck pain treatments:

  1. Rest: Resting for a short period (a day or two) can help relieve mild neck pain. But prolonged bed rest can make the pain worse, so it is important to remain active.

  2. Heat and cold therapy: Applying heat or cold packs to the affected area can help reduce inflammation and relieve pain. Heat therapy is useful for muscle spasms, while cold therapy is more effective for acute pain.

  3. Exercise: Targeted exercise programs can help improve neck flexibility, strength, and range of motion. Gentle stretches and range of motion exercises are often recommended.

  4. Pain medication: Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen can help relieve mild to moderate neck pain. Prescription pain medication may be necessary for more severe cases.

  5. Physical Therapy: Therapists use different techniques to alleviate neck pain caused by misaligned joints, muscle spasms, old injuries, and other causes.

It's important to note that the best treatment for neck pain depends on the individual, and you should always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any treatment regimen.

In addition, practicing good posture, staying active, and avoiding prolonged periods of sitting or standing can help prevent neck pain from occurring in the first place.

At Hesteyri Pain Solutions, we strive to find out the cause of your neck pain in the first place. This could be an old injury, sprain, spinal misalignment etc

Once the cause is established, we then tailor a specific treatment plan for you to start alleviating your symptoms, and improving movement.
